Dr. Henry E. Kikunaga, Optometrist

Dr. Kikunaga is a knowledgeable and well-respected optometrist in the San Diego County area. He was born and raised in the South Bay Area in Northern California and attended the University of California at San Diego ( He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from UCSD. Dr. Kikunaga then attended the Illinois College of Optometry and graduated with his Doctor of Optometry. He completed his professional externships at: the Hudson Valley VA Hospital near New York, NY, the Illinois Eye Institute in Chicago, IL., the Gordon Binder & Weiss Vision Institute in La Jolla, CA and the Palo Alto VA Hospital near Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA. His expertise includes the fitting of all types of contact lenses, even for the difficult fits. Dr. Kikunaga not only treats the symptoms of the ocular conditions you may have, but educating patients about the prevention or management of the causes. He provides comprehensive eye care for the entire family and welcomes you to refer his practice to your friends and family.

Dr Kikunaga is a proud and active member of the: American Optometric Association , California Optometric Association , San Diego County Optometric Society , Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce and the Chula Vista Kiwanis . In his free time, Dr. Henry Kikunaga, teaches and coaches the martial art of Kendo here in San Diego.. Dr. Kikunaga is currently (equivalent of) a 4th-Degree Black Belt in Kendo and at present, coaching the UCSD Kendo Team in preparation of their intercollegiate tournaments. In the past, Dr. Kikunaga has placed 3rd in the Junior Division at the United States Kendo Championships and has numerous titles and placings in tournaments across the Western Region.

Dr. Daniel L. Mason, Optometrist

Dr. Mason is board certified in ocular terapeutic pharmaceutical agents, glaucoma and practice Primary EyeCare. He has earned an exellent reputation in the community for both his professional and volunteer work. He is a graduate of UC Irvine in Biological Sciences and So. Caliornia College of Optometry in Visual Optics. Earning his doctorate in Optometry in 1984 he immediately went into private practice in Chula Vista/ Bonita. He is a past president of the Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce, CV Downtown Assocation and the Chula Vista Rotary Club. He is a member of the American Optometric Assocation, the California Optometric Assocation and is a Past President of the San Diego County Optometri Society. Dr. Mason helps Comanage patients interested in laser Refractive Surgery as well as Cataract Surgery providing pre and post operative care working alongside San Diego’s finest Ophthalmologists. He fits specialty contact lens including toric, astitmatism, bifocal and he works well with children.

In his off time you will find him spending time with family, volunteering at his church, and working with various community groups that help those less fortunate than most. He would welcome to have you as part of his optometric family practice.

Ruby, Maggie, Patti, Yolanda and Vanessa have been with our family practice for a combined total of over 46 years. You will find them extremely knowledgable, friendly and desiring to help you with your questions, concerns, frame styles, appointments, insurance questions and the list goes on and on. We are fortunate to have skilled and loyal staff members so year to year you see the same people helping you.
